About Red Fersan

Red Fersan, usually written Forsan by Egyptian exporters, is graded Light, Medium and Dark; the darker grades are more heavily patterned with charcoal and burgundy crystals, while the lighter ones read as an even warm red. Compared with Red Aswan its grain is finer and tighter, which gives a more uniform surface on large floors. It is a true igneous granite with low porosity, used for exterior paving, steps and memorials as well as interiors. Polished deepens the red; flamed and bush-hammered finishes are used outside. Frequently asked questions

Is Red Fersan the same as Wadi Forsan granite?

Yes. Fersan, Forsan and Farsan are spellings of the same name, and Wadi Forsan is the quarry area it is named after. Suppliers sell it in Light, Medium and Dark grades, so specify the shade.

Red Fersan or Red Aswan: which should I choose?

Choose Red Aswan for the classic coarse, porphyritic look of the ancient monuments. Choose Red Fersan for a finer, more even red that is easier to match across a large floor or facade. Both perform well outdoors.
